In what is shaping up to be a busy, busy day for Marvel’s Wall-Crawler, it seems we haven’t seen the last of Adrian Toomes, the tech-savvy maniac otherwise known as The Vulture.
At least, that’s according to Variety, whose story on Jake Gyllenhaal’s potential casting in Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 (spoilers: he’s up for the role of Quentin Beck/Mysterio) includes a small footnote confirming that Michael Keaton is all set to reprise his role as Toomes, with Zendaya (Michelle) and Marisa Tomei (Aunt May) also coming back for the 2019 sequel.
Jon Watts, meanwhile, is once again on directing duties, and he’ll be working from a script penned by Marvel duo Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley. The big takeaway here is, of course, the fact that Marvel’s Homecoming sequel will purportedly include at least two big-name villains for Peter Parker to confront, with Kraven seemingly earmarked for the third (and possibly final?) standalone Spidey flick.
All of this aligns with previous rumors concerning Spider-Man’s next foe, as speculation is rife that Homecoming 2 will ship Peter off on a globe-trotting journey as he works to protect those he holds near and dear.
Also of note, Jon Watts’ blockbuster sequel will be the first MCU to succeed Avengers 4 and, by effect, establish the parameters of Phase 4, so it’d be foolish to dismiss Homecoming 2 as just another Marvel sequel.
Fresh from his battle with the Mad Titan, look for Tom Holland’s Avenger to butt heads with Vulture and Mysterio when Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 swings into theaters on July 5th, 2019. Next up for Marvel Studios is the launch of another MCU sequel: Ant-Man and the Wasp.
