Aquaman, Shazam! and, er, Iron Fist season 2 – three of the geek-friendly properties we expect to lay eyes on during San Diego Comic-Con next week.
But there’s also another exciting IP that’s booked its place on the official guest list – Halloween. Yes, Universal and Blumhouse’s long-in-development horror sequel will seemingly enjoy a big showcase at the event, as the studio’s expected to clear its slate and double down on David Gordon Green’s upcoming flick, which is generating a ton of buzz right now.
Thanks to its incredible first teaser trailer, it’s fair to say that Halloween has earned its place at the tip-top of Universal’s calling card, and now, ahead of San Diego Comic-Con, EW has rolled out a brand new photo featuring the one and only Michael Myers, who looks like he’s ready to kill here.
Along with the photo reveal, Entertainment Weekly also sat down with star Jamie Lee Curtis, who explained what drew her to the project in the first place.
“What I loved is that it surgically excises all of that dead tissue. This is growing from just that original movie, 40 years later. There may be people who love the other movies, great — [they have] zero relevance to this story.”
Meanwhile, director David Gordon Green had this to offer up:
“This film isn’t one to narratively recognize any of the films other than the original Halloween. But we very much enjoy the other films and there’s a lot of very subtle shout-outs to a number of things that I think the big fans — the people that know the films scientifically — will get a kick out of, hopefully.”
Based on the film’s chilling first trailer, Myers’ night of terror, in which he slaughtered three teenagers, opened up a major void within the heart of Haddonfield, and we imagine the local town has never truly recovered from those horrific killings of ’78. Michael, meanwhile, is gearing up for round two, and we can hardly wait to see what that involves when Halloween haunts theaters on October 19th.
