Mike Myers Says Things Are Looking Good For Austin Powers 4

Though Michael Myers’ star has faded in this last decade, you may still remember a time where the Austin Powers movies were a cultural sensation. For many years, the conversations of playgrounds and office spaces across the world were filled with catchphrases, in-jokes, and bad impressions inspired by the spy spoof series until we all decided to give it a rest and start quoting Borat instead. To some extent, you could certainly argue that these movies were a fad for a specific time, but if an Austin Powers 4 ever did come our way, you can bet that it would attract a fair amount of attention on nostalgia appeal alone.

We’ve been hearing about a potential fourth installment for several years now, with little sign of progress, but it seems that Myers isn’t giving up just yet, explaining during a recent interview promoting Bohemian Rhapsody that he and director Jay Roach are still putting something together.

“I’ve had three kids under the age of seven,” Myers told Access. “They take a long time to write, they always have. Jay’s been super crazy. He is doing a fantastic movie right now that he’s working on right now. It’s looking good, so we’ll see.”

At the moment, Roach is busy working on Fair and Balanced, a drama about disgraced Fox News CEO Roger Ailes which just started filming last week. But while it may be some wait before the director gets round to collaborating again with Myers, the star at least hints that he’ll be reprising one of his most famous roles pretty soon:

“You’re gonna see Dr. Evil soon somewhere in the culture.”

In the sixteen years since Austin Powers in Goldmember, the villain of the franchise has reappeared in Saturday Night Live skits, suggesting that the comedian may have something similar in mind for the future. Either way, it certainly looks like Myers is still keen to get Austin Powers 4 off the ground, suggesting that we may yet see him don the glasses and bad teeth once more.
