After thrilling audiences as kick-ass secret agent Isla Faust alongside Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, we all wondered if Rebecca Ferguson would wind up – as so many young in-demand stars do – in a big comic book blockbuster. Many fans wanted to see her take to the stars as Captain Marvel, but it seems we might have to settle for her getting there with the aid of a rocket, as the Swedish actress has joined the cast of Skydance’s new space-set adventure, Life.

According to Variety, Ferguson will play a member of the crew of an International Space Station, who, “after retrieving a sample from Mars, discover that it displays signs of life, and proves to be more intelligent than expected.” It sounds a lot like the plot of the first Alien, but obviously it’s impossible to form a proper opinion with so little to go on.

The story is based on an original script by Deadpool writing duo Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, and will be directed by Daniel Espinosa. David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn are on board as producers.

It’s still early days for Life, but as of now we’re certainly intrigued and as always, we’ll keep you posted when we hear more.
