Mission: Impossible-Dead Reckoning Part One is upon us now but given the phenomenal success of its predecessors, it was believed that this new entry would tread down a similar path. And it definitely did. Turns out that the film raked in a hefty $7 million in its Tuesday preview before its official release on Wednesday – thereby surpassing all the previous entries.
No doubt the theatrical release has created enormous buzz amongst the franchise’s fans and currently, tickets are being sold at the utmost rapidity. As per Deadline, the hike in ticket sales is discernible in IMAX and PLF with a total count of up to 4,000 theaters on the date of the release itself.
This exorbitant amount of collection in the preview as well as a promising gigantic box office status in the future reflects the viewers’ everlasting love for the franchise and Tom Cruise in particular, whose remarkable performance as Ethan Hunt continues to add to his popularity and fame.
Not to mention, the film’s release occurred nearly five years after the saga’s sixth installment, Mission: Impossible-Fallout which fell a million dollars short of the recent entry in terms of its collection at its preview. All said and done, fans and critics are not disappointed as the movie seems to match or in some cases outshine their expectations. But it certainly has some bigger shoes to fill.
That is, given the investment of $290 million in the making of the film, it will face the challenge to garner an exorbitant sum at the box office and ensure a high degree of profitability as well as to fare better against its formidable competitor – Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. But with the quickening speed with which the tickets are being sold, there’s definitely a lot of hope.
