Mortal Kombat Movie Set For March 2021 Premiere

The James Wan-produced Mortal Kombat movie will apparently be with us in March of 2021, and we can hardly wait to see it.

When it comes to Mortal Kombat on film, longtime fans of the franchise have been enduring a dry spell since 1997 – well, unless you count the TV and web series that is. Still, Tinseltown has failed to test its might for 22 years now, so it’s definitely the right time for Hollywood to try and adapt the property again.

As you may’ve heard, Warner Bros. are finally going ahead with a reboot of the series produced by none other than James Wan (The Conjuring, Aquaman). And while the co-creator of Saw won’t be stepping behind the camera, the studio’s already found a director in the form of Simon McQuiod. But wait, as the good news doesn’t end there.

Aside from Wan and McQuiod’s involvement, we also now know when to expect the film, as it’s being reported tonight that it’ll be with us on March 5th, 2021. Pre-production will get underway this month ahead of cameras rolling in Adelaide, Australia later this year, which means casting news should be surfacing pretty soon, too. Who may wind up taking the lead roles is still unknown, of course, but we can’t wait to find out which Hollywood talent Wan will be able to rope in.

Unfortunately, it’ll still be some time before we can see if Warner Bros. is able to do justice to the source material, but the 1995 Mortal Kombat and its widely panned sequel Mortal Kombat: Annihilation haven’t exactly set the bar high for the studio. Except maybe in the field of insanely catchy theme songs.

Still, we live in hope that the property will get the adaptation it deserves and as pre-production continues to move along at a steady pace, we’ll be sure to let you know as soon as any further updates surface.
