MTV Thinks The Dark Knight Rises Was The Best Movie Of 2012

Now most of the prestigious end of year lists have made themselves available to the masses, MTV want you to know that, hey, they've got their own list, too - and have ranked The Dark Knight Rises as the best movie of the past year. Though a whole bunch of publications didn't appear have as much love for Christopher Nolan's third Batman movie as, say, Zero Dark Thirty or Lincoln, MTV have gone with the The Dark Knight Rises. Hey, they didn't even include Lincoln (or Django Unchained, for that matter). What? Isn't slavery down with the kids? Not enough CGI for the MTV crowd, we suppose.

Now that most of the prestigious end of year lists have made themselves available to the masses, MTV want you to know that, hey, they’ve got their own list, too – and have ranked The Dark Knight Rises as the best movie of the past year. Though a whole bunch of publications didn’t appear to have as much love for Christopher Nolan’s third Batman movie as, say, Zero Dark Thirty or Lincoln, MTV stuck it out with The Dark Knight Rises. Hey, they didn’t even include Lincoln (or Django Unchained, for that matter). What? Isn’t slavery down with the kids or something?

What is nice about this list, though, is the inclusion of The Cabin In The Woods, surely one of the year’s most entirely enjoyable pictures and a brilliant meta meditation on the horror genre as a whole. Couple that with an inclusion for The Avengers, and this is one list sure to please Joss Whedon. Perhaps surprisingly, too, MTV ranked The Perks Of Being A Wallflower in second place, though that’s presumably because Emma Watson actually goes to the MTV Movie Awards, and they need to keep her sweet (and who doesn’t want to keep Emma Watson sweet?).

It’s also good to see The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey getting some appreciation, given that the reviews thus far have proved invariably mixed. And, then, of course, there’s the obligatory ranking of Silver Linings Playbook and Zero Dark Thirty, both of which have made numerous appearances on various end of year ranking lists. Fashion in a nod for The Hunger Games, and that’s two Jennifer Lawrence flicks on the same list. First she takes over cinema itself, and now she’s taking over lists. What can’t that girl do?

Here’s the list in full:
