It seems as though every cult comedy of yesteryear is making a comeback in some form, whether it’s a TV offshoot or full feature-length movie in the vein of Zoolander 2. One of those forgotten gems is Joel Zwick’s My Big Fat Greek Wedding.
First released in 2002, the comedy flick introduced us to the Portokalos family in all of their weird and wacky glory, and now Universal is getting the gang back together for a bona fide reunion. If last month’s debutant trailer showcased a bigger, fatter and even more outrageous ceremony, then today’s poster for My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 teases the return of a cultural phenomenon.
Kirk Jones of Nanny McPhee fame is behind the lens for this one, which will largely orbit around the character of Toula (Nia Vardalos) coming to terms with her prized daughter making a life for herself in Paris. Escaping the cotton wool that Toula and the remainder of the family has wrapped her in for so long, a dud wedding certificate – an unashamed Macguffin if ever there was one – leads to another over-the-top wedding filled with revelry and shenanigans.
Welcoming old and new faces alike to the Portokalos family, the film stars Nia Vardalos, John Corbett, Lainie Kazan, Gia Carides, Joey Fatone, Elena Kampouris, Alex Wolff, Louis Mandylor, Bess Meisler, Bruce Gray, Fiona Reid, Ian Gomez, Jayne Eastwood, Mark Margolis, Andrea Martin and Michael Constantine.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 will offer some comedy respite to Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice when it opens directly opposite Zack Snyder’s DC megaton on March 25, 2016.
