Mysterio Spider-Man: Far From Home

Mysterio’s Welcomed Into The Avengers In New Spider-Man: Far From Home TV Spot

Peter Parker will encounter a new villain in Spider-Man: Far From Home - or is it a new hero? Though Quentin Beck is one of the wall-crawler's oldest foes in the comics, the marketing for the upcoming sequel has painted him as the noblest of good guys, helping Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. defeat the Elementals that are tearing their way through Europe. And just to prove whose side he's on, this new TV spot sees Mysterio inducted into the Avengers.

Expanding on footage we’ve seen in previous promos, the spot features Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury and Cobie Smulder’s Maria Hill recruiting Peter (Tom Holland), with Fury explaining that he needs some new super-friends as Thor, Doctor Strange and Captain Marvel – “don’t invoke her name” – are busy. It looks like the fate of the world will fall on Spidey and Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) then, as a later clip sees the two at a bar, with the former saying “welcome to the Avengers.”

The only thing is that we all know Mysterio isn’t going to stay on the side of the angels. There’s an expectation amongst fans that all Beck’s talk of being from another universe will turn out to be a lie. However, producer Eric Carroll has teased that the character’s story might hue closer to that of Mordo in Doctor Strange. So he might start out as a genuine ally before becoming corrupted and losing faith in the good fight for some reason.

The plan definitely seems to be to do more with Gyllenhaal in the MCU after this movie. If he is going to join a super-team, though, something tells us it won’t be the Avengers but a different group that’s altogether more sinister. At least, that’s according to an alleged leaked description of FFH‘s post-credits scene.

Either way, it’s not long now until Mysterio’s mysteries are revealed, as Spider-Man: Far From Home swings into theaters on July 2nd.
