Mysterio Spider-Man: Far From Home

Nick Fury Will Hire Mysterio To Help Spider-Man In Far From Home

Though we may not have received the first trailer as we expected, Sony delivered the next best thing by releasing a ton of new information on Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Most of the Marvel-related chatter at the moment is focused firmly on Captain Marvel and Avengers 4, and that’s perfectly understandable. I mean, not only are they the next two films to release from the House of Ideas, but both of them debuted stunning new trailers this week, too. As Marvel fans will know, though, they’re not the only two movies coming from the studio in 2019, as there’s also one more.

Yes, Spider-Man: Far From Home will swing into theaters on July 5th and with production now complete, it shouldn’t be too much longer before we get our first official look at it. In fact, a still of Spidey in his stealth suit leaked onto the web earlier this afternoon while Sony also debuted the film’s trailer at CCXP, though it’s yet to make its way online.

However, what has made its way online is a ton of new information about Mysterio and the role he’ll play and it sounds like there are going to be some major changes to his origins in Far From Home. It seems that at first, he’ll actually be seen as a hero of sorts, with Jake Gyllenhaal explaining the following:

There are these threats to the world. Elementals. Elemental creatures. And Mysterio is someone who knows about them, and wants to make sure the world is safe from them. And Nick Fury asks him to come on and help, because he’s the only one who really sort of understands them in a way. And then he teams up with friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, and unfortunately, he has to make him more than just friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

For those unfamiliar with Mysterio, he’s a gifted, and often under-appreciated special effects guru. In the source material, he comes up all sorts of illusions and tricks to fight Spidey. And though we’ve no doubt he’ll ultimately end up on the opposite side of the wall-crawler in the film, it sounds like they may start off working together before things turn sour.

As for what exactly happens to push Mysterio down a more sinister path, that we don’t know yet, but it’s intriguing to learn how his arc will begin and with the aforementioned Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer said to include a reveal of Gyllenhaal in full costume as the villain, we simply cannot wait for Sony to debut it online.
