It looks as though actor Nathan Fillion (Castle, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly) won’t be teaming up with The Avengers anytime soon. Though he’s appeared in many Joss Whedon projects before, the actor told Digital Spy that he’s not “famous enough” to join a film like The Avengers 2.
“I have to be honest. The entertainment industry is an industry. I love telling stories but finance does meet art. If I were in charge of an Avengers sequel I would be very concerned about what kind of money I could make back overseas, and these kinds of things. I’m not quite at that level yet where I could just be plopped in there but I’m getting there.”
Apparently, Fillion was approached for the role of Hank Pym/Ant Man, one of the original founding members of The Avengers. The actor turned down the offer though, stating that he’s done with Whedon films.
“I’ve had more than my fair share of Joss Whedon projects. I find it very difficult, even being the selfish kind of guy I am, to say ‘give me more’.”
It truly is a shame to hear that Fillion won’t be on the roster for The Avengers 2. He could do justice to many of the characters in Marvel’s universe and his involvement in the sequel would make many, many fans very happy.
What do you think? Is Fillion big enough to be in a film like The Avengers 2?
