The Lycan clan and the Vampire faction have been at war for millennia, that much we know. To date, it’s an all-consuming conflict that has spawned four rip-roaring fantasy actioners at Screen Gems, exploring everything from Lycan/Vampire hybrids to the lore behind the Vampire Elders, headed up by Charles Dance (Game of Thrones) in the most recent installment, Underworld: Awakening.

It was here that long-time fans of the series were introduced to his son David (The Divergent Series‘ Theo James), who would eventually gain powers similar to those belonging to Kate Beckinsale’s Death Dealer Selene thanks to a last-ditch blood transfusion. And so, we arrive at Underworld: Blood Wars, the fifth entry into the franchise helmed by series newcomer Anna Foerster.

On course to claw its way into theaters early next year, a January release date may not be one to inspire confidence – it’s often written off as a graveyard throughout the entertainment industry – but everything we’ve seen coming out of Blood Wars thus far is wonderfully stylish. Questions remain as to whether Foerster’s sequel can capture the curiosity of your average moviegoer who may not have much of an understanding of the Lycan-Vampire battle, but for now, a hoard of icy screenshots and a new one-sheet have emerged online for your viewing pleasure.

Underworld: Blood Wars arrives in theaters on January 6, 2017.

The next installment in the blockbuster franchise, UNDERWORLD: BLOOD WARS follows Vampire death dealer, Selene (Kate Beckinsale) as she fends off brutal attacks from both the Lycan clan and the Vampire faction that betrayed her. With her only allies, David (Theo James) and his father Thomas (Charles Dance), she must stop the eternal war between Lycans and Vampires, even if it means she has to make the ultimate sacrifice.
