New Alien: Covenant Image Calls The Colonial Marines To Mind

Fans have been anxiously awaiting the first footage from Ridley Scott's follow-up to Prometheus, Alien: Covenant, ever since the first official poster debuted a couple of weeks back, but 20th Century Fox seems to be biding their time and waiting for the perfect moment to release the teaser online. Fortunately, the studio is keeping the hype alive in the meantime with a brand new image from the film, which is bound to bring about some Aliens flashbacks.

Fans have been anxiously awaiting the first footage from Ridley Scott’s follow-up to Prometheus, Alien: Covenant, ever since the first official poster debuted a couple of weeks back, but 20th Century Fox seems to be biding their time and waiting for the perfect moment to release the teaser online. Fortunately, the studio is keeping the hype alive in the meantime with a brand new image from the film, which is bound to bring about some Aliens flashbacks.

The still features several silhouetted figures stalking through some long grass while sporting some pretty serious looking weaponry. This is almost certainly an intentional nod to the nail-bitingly tense early scenes from James Cameron’s Aliens, which saw a team of Colonial Marines scoping out an “abandoned” facility on the planet Acheron, AKA LV-426.

The photo has led to some speculation that a similar team of marines could show up in Covenant, but it’s much more likely that these are simply members of the ship’s crew who happen to have access to some heavy-duty firearms. As you no doubt know, things didn’t work out very well for Cameron’s space-badasses, so hopefully at least some of these guys are a bit luckier.

While we’re beginning to learn more about the plot of the film, a lot of mystery still surrounds Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant. More than likely though, the upcoming trailer will give us a better idea of what to expect, so be sure to stay tuned for when it drops – it could be any day now.
