Meet Callum Lynch. Before swanning off to 15th century Spain as the deadly Aguilar, December’s Assassin’s Creed movie will introduce fans to Michael Fassbender’s modern-day character, Lynch, and today’s new still finds our time-hopping lead in isolation.

Likely lifted from an early portion of the movie, long before Fassbender’s protagonist is introduced to the devious Abstergo Industries and the Animus technology, the grimy image appears to feature the character carrying out some investigation work, as he narrows down his hunt for the all-powerful Templar organization.

Tapping into the genetic memories of his ancestors, Lynch unlocks the ability to experience the lives led by his Assassin forefathers, specifically in the Middle Ages. All across Ubisoft’s tentpole Assassin’s Creed franchise we’ve glimpsed plenty of cinematic potential, so it’s little wonder that already there’s mooted talks of a potential sequel and/or franchise.

Directing Fassbender through time is Macbeth filmmaker Justin Kurzel, flanked by Marion Cotillard, Ariane Labed, Michael K. Williams, Jeremy Irons and Brendan Gleeson.

March 25 brings with it Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and, reportedly, the first-look trailer for Assassin’s Creed. We’ll keep you posted as the week progresses, and you can catch Justin Kurzel’s high-profile adaptation when it leaps into theaters on December 21.

Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) discovers he is a descendant of the secret Assassins society through unlocked genetic memories that allow him to relive the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. After gaining incredible knowledge and skills he’s poised to take on the oppressive Knights Templar in the present day.
