New Captain Marvel TV Spot Teases A Secret In Carol’s Past

With the second proper trailer for Captain Marvel dropping earlier this month, we probably shouldn’t expect to see a whole lot of new footage from Carol Danvers’ big screen debut until the film itself arrives in cinemas. Still, if you want a quick recap of the interplanetary action to come, this new TV spot, viewable above, offers a 30-second summary of our heroine’s origins.

As Annette Bening’s unnamed character explains, Carol was saved from an accident by the Kree people, who fused her DNA with their own to create a formidable fighter. Meanwhile, we hear Captain Marvel herself telling a de-aged Nick Fury that something in her past is “the key to all of this.” And while it’s unclear what exactly she’s referring to, chances are it has something to do with the Kree-Skrull War, which as you may know by now, Carol doesn’t want to fight but to end.

So, that’s pretty much where we are with Captain Marvel right now, with many mysteries remaining in both her past and her future. Though it’s been reported before that the upcoming Brie Larson-led film won’t be an origin story for its title character, you can expect the movie to delve plenty into Carol’s backstory regardless, as she tries to recover whatever important piece of information has been lost to amnesia. At the same time, a lot of fans will be more concerned with what’s next for the character, since Carol’s assumed to play a crucial role in next year’s Avengers: Endgame.

You can expect to see this MCU newcomer meet with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes when the Avengers: Infinity War sequel hits theaters on April 26th, 2019, but in the meantime, Carol will have the spotlight to herself when Captain Marvel comes out on March 8th.
