2017’s next big superhero movie is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and plenty of awesome promotional material for the highly anticipated sequel is now finding its way online. The latest is a batch of character posters revolving around the core team members from the first movie. That’d be Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, Baby Groot, Drax and Gamora.

While they’ll be joined by several newcomers like Mantis, Nebula and Yondu, it’s nice to see Marvel still putting the focus on this lot, especially as they’re the reason both fans and regular moviegoers alike fell in love with these characters and the franchise in the first place.

The banners we have here may look fairly standard on the surface, but there’s actually something pretty interesting about them. If you look closely, you’ll notice that each one features a unique looking planet in the background and it’s hard not to wonder if we’re not looking at Ego the Living Planet here. We know Kurt Russell will take on the form of both a planet and person in the movie, but Marvel has so far kept the former under wraps, so it’s hard to say for sure if that’s what’s going on.

In a a day and age when so much is revealed in TV spots and trailers ahead of time, it’s obviously not a bad thing for the studio to be keeping stuff like that a secret until the film actually arrives. If nothing else, it should only help to heighten excitement for James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ahead of its release this May.
