Though he may not have featured in the maiden teaser for Captain America: Civil War, make no mistake: The introduction of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is fast becoming one of the more interesting facets of Joe and Anthony Russo’s superhero sequel.
In fact, earlier today we learned that Spidey was always a fundamental strand in the Russo brothers’ pitch for Civil War, and that’s even before Sony and Marvel arrived at a deal that would allow the beloved webslinger to join Earth’s Mightiest Heroes on screen. But now that the red tape has been handled, Tom Holland is ready to don the famous guise as Peter Parker’s alter-ego, and recently, the directors shared new details about the suit.
Speaking to Brazilian outlet Super Interessante during the fan-centric ComicCon Experience, Anthony Russo touched base on the creation of Holland’s disguise. Interestingly, the filmmaker points to an “experimental process” of rendering Spider-Man alongside other actors – namely Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man. Beyond that, there’s also mention that “so much” of Spidey’s suit will be created using VFX effects.
“Well, we researched a lot and do a lot of experiments for all the characters. We did the same with Spider-Man. We knew it had to be someone young, it was very important because we wanted to give this essence to the character: it is something unique in the Marvel Universe. Tom Holland is an amazing Spider-Man, people will love it.
It was a very experimental process, placing it with other actors, especially with Downey Jr., we were learning as we did and are very happy with the result. But we are still working on some things, like the uniform. He’s not ready because so much will be produced with special effects.”
Captain America: Civil War will swing into theaters on May 6, 2016 with Spider-Man in tow.
