While Thanos unfortunately won’t appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 next year, a new report from this week points to the Elders of the Universe making their presence felt in both James Gunn’s sequel and the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general.
Powerful cosmic beings who are each the last of their respective races, we’ve already met one of them in the form of Benicio del Toro’s Collector. It’s being reported by SchmoesKnow.com that there will be at least four Elders in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The Collector will be one of them, but so too will Elizabeth Debicki’s Ayesha and the mysterious characters being played by Sharon Stone and Sylvester Stallone.
Apparently, all of them will be used in the movie as the impetus for Star-Lord to seek out Ego the Living Planet, someone we already know is going to be revealed as his father.
The site also mentions that Thor: Ragnarok‘s Grandmaster (played by Jeff Goldblum) will be an Elder, albeit an exiled one who will end up being the Overseer of the Gladiatorial Games on the planet Ragnarok. The site isn’t sure if he’ll show up in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but an after-credits scene has to be at least a possibility, don’t you think?
