The Other Woman star Leslie Mann has entered talks with New Line ahead of a potential role in the studio’s upcoming reboot-cum-sequel of John Hughes’ 1980s lampooning comedy classic, Vacation, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Mann will join Ed Helms and Christina Applegate in the film as Audrey Griswold, the all-grown-up daughter of Clark and Ellen — played by Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo in the original, respectively. Early reports suggest that the two goofball parents will make cameo appearances in the upcoming movie.

New Line’s reboot-cum-remake of Vacation is scheduled to begin shooting next week in Louisiana, with first-time directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein stepping behind the camera. Elsewhere on the casting bill, the filmmaking duo have tapped Kyler Gisondo and Steel Stebbins as Rusty Griswold’s sons, with reports stating that Charlie Day and Thor’s Chris Hemsworth are also in talks to star.

Much like the ridiculous original, the upcoming sequel-of-sorts will see Applegate and Helms’ characters taking their children — or, at least, attempting to — on a good old fashioned road trip. In terms of Manns’ role, it’s understood this revised version of Audrey Griswold (played by Dana Barron in the 1983 flick) will be married to Chris Hemsworth’s hotshot news anchor, Stone Crandall.

Whether New Line’s ambitious retelling of the eclectic Griswold clan strikes a chord with audiences remains to be seen, but given the amount of source material available at their disposal — including Christmas Vacation, European Vacation and Vegas Vacation — the studio may be hoping that this Vacation reboot is the beginning of a new franchise. A fate that will no doubt be determined by the cast’s on-screen chemistry.
