If Rampage lay dormant at New Line throughout the course of 2016, over the past few weeks we’ve witnessed the studio’s high-profile creature feature slowly begin to make the formative steps toward development.

Skyfall and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End star Naomie Harris was the first new recruit to climb on board – she’ll play a talented geneticist with an unflinching moral code, for those keeping track – before New Line earmarked roles for both Joe Manganiello (The Batman) and Marley Shelton. The latter two are still in the midst of negotiations, but it seems the studio’s casting spree is far from over. That’s because Variety brings word that Jake Lacy and Breanne Hill have now joined Ramage in undisclosed roles.

Reuniting with his San Andreas director Brad Peyton – ditto for Hill, who starred as a waitress in the 2015 disaster pic – Dwayne Johnson will headline New Line’s video game movie as a self-confessed animal lover, who is forced into a desperate race against time to stop three gargantuan beasts from jump-starting the apocalypse. They’re the end result of genetic experiments gone awry, and though story details remain firmly under wraps for the time being, fans of blockbuster cinema can surely look forward to a helping of jaw-dropping spectacle that would make even the great Roland Emmerich quiver in his seat.

Circling back to that pair of newcomers, Jake Lacy is perhaps best known for his role in HBO’s beloved drama Girls, while Breanne Hill can currently be seen opposite Jason Momoa in Netflix’s Frontier series.

Rampage reunites the New Line dream team – namely Johnson, Peyton and producer Beau Flynn – when the creature feature roars into theaters on April 20th, 2018. Production will commence sometime this year.
