We’re beginning to think Josh Boone has a fondness for Friday the 13th.

Not only is his X-Men spinoff New Mutants slated for release on Friday, April 13th, but The Fault in Our Stars filmmaker has today confirmed via Instagram that the film’s first teaser will drop at midnight for those on the Pacific Coast (3am ET/8am UK tomorrow).

Bearing the caption, “there’s something new to fear,” Boone’s ominous post merely confirms that when the clock strikes midnight out west, X-Men fans will be able to catch an early peek at New Mutants, a star-studded spinoff that has been pitched as a “haunted house movie” with teenagers. Of course, this being the X-Men universe, those teenagers are imbued with very strange, mind-bending abilities, and by the time 2018 rolls around, Boone and his team will be hoping that the likes of Magik, Wolfsbane, Sunspot, Cannonball and Mirage will be on the verge of becoming household names.

Per Instagram:

Featuring an enviable cast of up-and-coming talent, New Mutants has welcomed the likes of Anya Taylor-Joy (Split), Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) and Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things) into its midst, which ought to lead to some cracking scenes involving Hollywood’s best and brightest young stars.

Story-wise, much of the film is said to unfold within an institutional setting – think Breakfast Club/One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest – as those gifted teenagers attempt to wrangle their powers under control. What’s more, the timing of Fox’s trailer reveal is telling; if Deadpool was an R-rated romp, and Logan delivered a somber finale for Wolverine, then New Mutants will introduce film fans to a darker corner of the X-Men universe.

Because let’s face it: there’s only so many times you can save the world before it gets tedious.
