New Rogue One TV Spot Contains A Star Wars Rebels Easter Egg

New promos for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story are zooming in pretty much every day now as the Gareth Edwards-directed movie's release date draws near, but this latest one is notable for more than just a few seconds worth of new footage. Around the 7 second mark, we see a fleet of Rebel ships gather in from of an Imperial Star Destroyer, and the little craft on the bottom left should be very familiar to fans of Disney XD's excellent animated series, Star Wars Rebels.

New promos for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story are zooming in pretty much every day now as the Gareth Edwards-directed movie’s release date draws near, but this latest one is notable for more than just a few seconds worth of new footage. Around the 7 second mark in the video below, we see a fleet of Rebel ships gather in front of an Imperial Star Destroyer, and the little craft on the bottom left should be very familiar to fans of Disney XD’s excellent animated series, Star Wars Rebels.

The general consensus seems to be that this is actually Hera Syndulla’s modified VCX-100 light freighter, The Ghost, which she, Ezra, Sabine and the others use to get around the galaxy in. The ship certainly appears to be the same model, but obviously we can’t tell for sure if it’s actually supposed to be The Ghost, or if Edwards simply included it as a little nod to the show.

Of course, fans don’t want to think about that – in their minds not only is this Hera’s ship, but they’ve already begun to theorize that the current third season of rebels could end just as this space-battle is about to commence. Admittedly, that would be pretty cool.

Tell us, do you think this is confirmation of a connection between Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Star Wars Rebels, or is it just an affectionate easter egg that won’t have any bearing on either plot? Drop a comment below and let us know what you think.
