Buckle in, folks, for it looks as though we have our first tangible rumor that Marvel and Sony are on the verge of reaching a deal over your friendly neighbourhood web-slinger.

News comes by way of Latino Review — an outlet with a sound track record for unearthing scoops of this nature — with the publication stating that the two companies have worked out the kinks to allow Spider-Man to appear in a Marvel film after all. Before delving into the details, it’s worth nothing that this remains unconfirmed at the time of going to press, with nary a word from either party to confirm or deny this speculative tidbit.

So, down to business; according to the report, it’s Sony who will lease the character back to Marvel to use in an upcoming film. Given that Captain America: Civil War is on the brink of entering development, all signs point to Spider-Man swinging into action in time for Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 — three whole years away, yes, but it’s still an exciting proposition.

While we’re still classifying this as a rumor, it’s long been known that Marvel and Sony have held discussions about the ownership of the character, and just last month we learned more about the potential small print of such a deal. Late last year, Comic Book Movie stated that the each studio would co-finance a film for each other, with Marvel also poised to lease a character from their prestigious vault to Sony for Spidey’s next solo outing — should it ever happen.

Circling back to Latino Review’s post, though, and the outlet also gives a play-by-play analysis of all that is expected to happen throughout the course of Phase Three, and you can check out the breakdown over on their site. Keep in mind though that they delve into the minutia of what happens in the comics, revealing the fates of characters and spoiler-laden storylines.

We’ll keep you updated as more on this story develops. What we do know for certain though is that Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 will arrive in theaters on May 4, 2018, with or without your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man.
