The minute James Wan’s supernatural brainchild The Conjuring terrified audiences back in 2013, it was only a matter of time until a massive cinematic universe would expand — which turned out to be the exact case when features such as The Nun introduced an all-new terror to the silver screen. Flash forward to now, and “the greatest evil” in the Conjuring realm is set to return after Warner Bros. finally unveiled the official trailer for The Nun II.
Originally introduced in The Conjuring 2, the aforementioned “Nun” character is deviously controlled and operated by a vicious demon named Valak — who audiences first meet after the Nun (Bonnie Aarons) comes in contact with demonologist Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga). This time around, Valak is back to enact revenge upon Sister Irene (Taissa Farmiga), who foiled the Nun’s diabolical plans in the first entry of the spin-off franchise.
After several years of anticipation, one of the most unsettling and terrifying characters in the colossal horror franchise is set to make a monumental return. And if the trailer above is of any stark indication, then it’s clear that the Nun is hellbent on leaving audiences shielding their eyes from the terror and gripping the armrests on their theater seats.
In the two-minute-long trailer, the franchise’s infamous demonic nun is back and on the prowl, simply looking to lure souls directly into the darkness. But with Sister Irene still around and aiming to stop the supernatural force, it’s clear that a horrifying battle between good and evil is about to commence.
The Nun II will begin haunting theaters this Sept. 8, 2023.
