One of the most impressive ensemble casts ever is getting even more impressive, as we now have word that Nicolas Cage is set to join The Expendables 3.

In an interview with Total Film, producer Avi Lerner revealed that Cage has committed to the film, and a few other huge stars are in discussions to join.

“We’ve approached Clint Eastwood to be one of the guys, we’ve got a character in mind for him. We’re talking to Harrison Ford. [And we want] Wesley Snipes when he comes back from prison. I’ll give you one more name, we’ve got Nicolas Cage

And we’re going to bring Mickey Rourke back, if he won’t be too crazy. I like Mickey. And of course, all the existing stars”

That would be an insanely awesome cast, as if the current cast isn’t awesome enough. Even as I type this, I can hear the Cage haters letting out a collective groan. Before you do so though, think about it for a second.

I think the actor would fit very well into the film and plus, it isn’t as if he will be the sole star, or even the biggest star. So even if you aren’t a Cage fan, relax, this casting news can only benefit the film.

Considering The Expendables 2 hasn’t even released yet, Lerner must be very confident that the film will be a hit to be speaking so definitely about another sequel. Even if the second film doesn’t do so well, if they can actually get Eastwood and Ford on board then they should definitely push forward to the third film.

Of course, we will have a much better idea of the future of the franchise this weekend after the official numbers for The Expendables 2 are released.

What do you think? Is Cage a good fit for The Expendables 3?
