Over the course of a long and illustrious career, Nicolas Cage has become many things; Academy Award winner, A-list action hero, pioneer of the bespoke Nouveau Shamanic acting technique, former owner of the most valuable comic book in existence, and a walking meme.
However, we should be adding oracle to the list after the Renfield star claimed in a chat with ComicBook that he predicted comic book adaptations would take over Hollywood as an 11 year-old kid and vociferous devourer of superhero stories. As ridiculous as that might sound, let’s not overlook the fact that Cage is arguably Hollywood’s most famous fan of the medium, so he certainly knows his stuff.
“People are so obsessed with comic books and comic book movies, The interesting thing about it was even when I was all of 11 years old, I had no doubt that when the technology and filmmaking got to a certain level, that the comic book stories and the colors of the characters would over overtake the industry and it did. It happened.”
For the record, the Con Air and Face/Off legend turns 60 years old next year, so he’s been harboring this prediction for quite some time. He’s had a huge part to play in it, too, thanks to his turns in such wildly inconsistent fare as the two Ghost Rider movies, Kick-Ass, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and Teen Titans Go! to the Movies to name but a small few.
If Nic Cage says he could tell what the future of the business was going to look like at the age of 11, you’d best believe him, because at the very least he resolutely believes himself.
