Last week, rumor broke out that Guardians of the Galaxy co-writer Nicole Perlman could be teaming up with Inside Out co-writer Meg LeFauve to pen the upcoming Captain Marvel solo film. They seemed like a good fit for the property, thanks to their history with both Disney and Marvel, and now the news has been made official.

Marvel confirmed Perlman and LeFauve’s involvement earlier today, though the announcement did not come with any new information about the highly-anticipated project, except for further confirmation that it will tell the story of the Carol Danvers iteration of the superheroine.

Now that writers have been set for the hotly-anticipated film, the next order of business is to secure a director. If the latest rumors are to be believed, Angelina Jolie may be at the top of the studio’s list, though it’s always possible that someone else (like Adam McKay, who’s been tipped as a possible helmer for The Inhumans but has yet to commit to a Marvel project) could take the director’s chair instead. Marvel is famous for throwing curve balls and subverting expectations, so it’s hard to predict what the next announcement will be.

As always, we’ll keep you posted as more news about Captain Marvel becomes available.
