Nobody cares about ‘Quantumania,’ ‘Spider-Man,’ or ‘Venom’ when ‘Morbius’ isn’t on Disney Plus yet

The complicated and incredibly complex contracts between studios and streaming services will take years to resolve, leaving some high-profile titles absent from the streaming service that owns the company behind the movies or TV shows. Things are slowly returning to normal, but the fact Morbius hasn’t been announced for Disney Plus is nothing short of criminal.

Sony is the only one of the “Big Five” Hollywood studios that doesn’t own or operate its streaming service, but seeing as the Mouse House is in charge of Marvel, it’s become the go-to place for legacy titles to wind up eventually. Tomorrow brings the arrival of several Spider-Man blockbusters, while Venom has also been announced for next month.

The internet being what it is, though, a hardy band of dedicated Morbheads instantly began demanding when the Razzie-winning modern classic would be joining them, a move that would finally justify that monthly subscription fee.

It would be fascinating to see just how well Morbius would fare on Disney Plus should it eventually be awarded a spot on the platform’s library, seeing as it suffered the unwanted distinction of bombing at the box office twice over and earning a reputation as one of the worst-reviewed Marvel adaptations of all-time.

You get the feeling Spider-Man and Venom will perform admirably among at-home audiences, but should Morbius‘ reputation precede it, then it could ultimately be a pointless exercise that gives it a home out of pity and little else.
