Ewan McGregor Game To Reprise As Obi-Wan Kenobi

Soon after collecting a Golden Globe for his dual role in Fargo, Ewan McGregor once again expressed his enthusiasm to play Obi-Wan Kenobi once more.

Much like the great Alec Guinness before him, Ewan McGregor will forever be associated with the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Indeed, as any Star Wars fan will tell you, the Scottish actor managed to sneak a cameo of sorts into The Force Awakens back in 2015, when his Force ghost guided Rey toward taking her first steps. That’s all well and good, but now that a true Obi-Wan spinoff is on the horizon – Stephen Daldry is allegedly in talks to direct – we’re beginning to wonder whether Ewan McGregor will get the chance to reprise as the great Jedi Master.

It’s a question that McGregor has addressed 10 times before, but after collecting a Golden Globe award for his dual role in FX’s Fargo series – and deservedly so, we might add – the series mainstay told those in attendance that he’d be “happy” to appear in future Star Wars movies. However, Ewan McGregor is adamant that he has not been briefed about Lucasfilm’s plans, meaning his guess is really as good as ours.

Of course, even if he was fully up to speed on all things Kenobi, there’s a good chance McGregor is bound by all sorts of non-disclosure agreements. That would go some way to explaining why the Scot is sporting a very Kenobi-esque beard, while there are also one or two photos of him undergoing some serious training.

Perhaps a return trip to Lucasfilm’s far-away galaxy is on the cards? Here’s what the man himself had to say at last night’s Golden Globes ceremony:  “I would be happy to play him again but I don’t know anything more than you do.”

If nothing else, it’s further confirmation that Ewan McGregor is game to appear in a future Star Wars movie – if not the planned Obi-Wan movie, then perhaps another anthology flick that requires the all-wise Jedi Master? Lucasfilm, are you listening?
