Though January came and went without the widely predicted Star Wars: Episode IX title reveal, there’s reason to believe that this grand unveiling may be just around the corner, and going by one unverified leak shared on Reddit, there’s even a chance that the name is already with us.
An anonymous user has posted an alleged screenshot from the coding of StarWars.com, which displays a logo for the title “Star Wars: Balance of the Force.” And while only time will tell whether this is the real thing or yet another fake, it’s still an unusually fitting title given the recent conflict and discourse around the Sequel Trilogy.
With the fandom in a divided state right now, J.J. Abrams and his peers are likely hoping that this next installment will bring a little balance to the franchise. And as for its in-universe significance, you could expect the name to apply heavily to the light-and-dark relationship between Rey and Kylo Ren.
Though previous Star Wars movies have often referred to the idea of bringing ‘balance’ to the Force, the concept has also felt vague and ill-defined, especially in a series where we’re usually supposed to be rooting for the light side to triumph over the dark – i.e. the exact opposite of ‘balance’ between the two sides.
In any case, this is far from the first rumored title that the internet has suggested, so it’s probably best not to take the claim too seriously until Lucasfilm provides us with some concrete info. That being said, we may not have much longer to wait, with C-3PO actor Anthony Daniels teasing just yesterday that something big was coming our way. But regardless of what these next few days bring, all will be revealed when Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters on December 20th, 2019.
