Olivia Munn has really started to expand her career as an actress lately. She’s currently starring on HBO’s The Newsroom and in the past few years we’ve seen her pop up in films like Magic Mike and Iron Man 2. Today, we’re hearing that Munn will continue to expand her resume as she’s in talks to join the crime comedy Mortdecai.

Based on Kyril Bonfiglioli’s The Great Mortdecai Moustache Mystery, Munn’s role in the David Koepp-directed film is currently unknown. Set to star Johnny Depp, with Gwyneth Paltrow and Ewan McGregor supporting him, Mortdecai follows Depp’s character, an “art dealer/rogue who somehow gets mixed up in a plot involving Nazi gold, the Russians, the MI5 and more.”

I haven’t read the novel that the film is based on but from the plot description we’re given, it sounds like it could make for a fun action/adventure ride, especially with the cast that’s in place.

I’m actually hoping it turns out to be alright because god knows Johnny Depp needs a hit. As a fan of the actor, I can’t say that he’s been doing very good work lately. Just look to Dark Shadows, The Lone Ranger or The Rum Diary for an example of what I’m talking about. Between poor performances and poor box office returns, he’s not the star that he once was. That or he just has bad luck with choosing projects.
