Needless to say, the Powers That Be have cherry-picked the crème de la crème of 2017, though there are one or two surprises (and glaring snubs!) to digest. Announced earlier this morning, the Academy rolled out pre-taped category introductions from a host of big-name guests, including Priyanka Chopra (Baywatch), Rosario Dawson (Daredevil), Gal Gadot (Justice League), Salma Hayek, Michelle Rodriguez, and Zoe Saldana (Avengers: Infinity War).

Unsurprisingly, The Shape of Water is leading the field, after Guillermo del Toro’s gothic fantasy scooped up 13 nominations – Best Picture included – and is now a hot favorite for some of the industry’s greatest accolades. WWII epic Dunkirk falls into second place with eight nominations, while Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri nabbed a total of seven. Greta Gerwig has become the fifth woman ever to be shortlisted for Best Director, while Jordan Peele was recognized for his immense debut, Get Out.

Conspicuous by its absence? Wonder Woman, as the Patty Jenkins-directed superhero flick was snubbed entirely. There is one silver lining, though – Logan received a nod for Best Adapted Screenplay, placing Scott Frank, James Mangold, Michael Green’s script alongside heavyweights in the vein of Call Me By Your Name and The Disaster Artist.

Without further ado, the nominations for the 90th Academy Awards are as follows:
