On March 31, director Rupert Sanders will introduce Shirow’s hit manga to the moviegoing masses in the form of a neo-noir adaptation dripping with style, one in which Scarlett Johansson takes point as the deadly Major Motoko Kusanagi. Her mission? To mitigate any of the threats brewing deep within the bowels of the city’s criminal underbelly, be they cyborg criminals or rampant extremists. Cries of whitewashing notwithstanding, so far Paramount’s Ghost in the Shell has impressed with its slick visuals and fight choreography – Johansson performed many of her own stunts for the film – and it appears as though the studio is on the verge of staging one final marketing push before the movie’s release.

Trailer Track is reporting that a new trailer for Ghost in the Shell is expected online by the end of the week – to coincide with the launch of Paramount’s action threequel xXx: Return of Xander Cage – and a listing posted by American film chain Deluxe Digital reveals that said promo will reportedly clock in at 2:09. The post came accompanied with the film’s official logline, which introduces Johansson’s Major as a “special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic’s advancements in cyber technology.”

Ghost in the Shell hits US and UK theaters on March 31, 2017 and co-stars Michael Pitt, Juliette Binoche and Pilou Asbæk. We’ll have full coverage of the film’s all-new trailer the moment it goes live, so stay tuned for more.
