Paramount Still Working On Quentin Tarantino’s Star Trek Movie

Despite the fact that it's been a long time since we've heard anything about Quentin Tarantino's Star Trek movie, Paramount is indeed still working on it.

The announcement that Quentin Tarantino had successfully pitched a concept for a new Star Trek movie was incredibly surprising when we first heard it, with the director’s violent, no-holds-barred style seeming like a strange fit for the usually squeaky clean, utopian Trek universe.

But here we are and it would seem that the project is still happening. We haven’t received any information on the plot or even casting news for the R-rated pic – which will be a franchise first, no less – but make no mistake, Paramount still intends on making this thing a reality.

In a recent article by The New York Times, we were told that the studio is currently hard at work on bringing us new installments in established franchises, including Star Trek. In fact, when asked how they plan to keep these properties relevant and continue delivering new, thrilling experiences for audiences, producer Wyck Godfrey noted that the key is giving us things that are totally unexpected, such as a Tarantino Trek movie.

“Suddenly people’s eyes light up,” Mr. Godfrey said about the project. “Yours just did.”

Well, he’s certainly right about that, but with Star Trek Beyond underwhelming at the box office, the franchise’s immediate future seems to be in jeopardy. At least, on the big screen it is. But if Godfrey’s right, and Paramount really does intend on bringing us another theatrical outing, then it looks like the current cinematic void might just be filled with Tarantino’s take on the Trek universe – we’re just unsure of when it’ll arrive.

In any case, while Star Trek 4 may be no more, there are still new adventures that lie ahead for the property, and if Paramount’s to be believed, Quentin Tarantino might be the right person to breathe new life into this iconic franchise and get things back on track.
