After being rumored for the role for months, we now have confirmation that Paul Rudd will star in Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man. The news comes via The Wrap, who tell us that the other contender, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, is instead choosing to focus on Sandman and so, the studio has gone with Rudd.

It’s a good thing too, as due to his excellent comedic chops, I think Rudd is the better choice and will suit the character more than Gordon-Levitt would have. Plus, seeing as Wright is known primarily as a director with a great sense of comedy, working with one of Hollywood’s funniest leading men should bode well for him.

Of course, Rudd will play the titular role in the film, that of Ant-Man aka Henry Pym, “a brilliant scientist who invented a substance that allowed him to change his size and communicate with insects.” No other casting has been confirmed at this time but we’ll let you know when we hear more.

Not too long ago Rashida Jones was rumored for a supporting role and given that her and Rudd have worked together before, and produced successful results, I think it’s definitely a possibility that she may come on board too.

Ant-Man will hit theatres on July 31, 2015. Tell us, are you happy to hear that Paul Rudd will be joining the Marvel universe? Let us know in the comments section below.
