Peter Dinklage Joins Adam Sandler In Pixels

Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage is joining Adam Sandler, Kevin James and Josh Gad in Chris Columbus' Pixels. Scripted by Just Go With It scribe Tim Dowling, the film (based on Patrick Jean's 2010 short) is being billed as a "Ghostbusters-esque actioner" that will see "a group of elite gamers" recruited to help protect New York City when video game characters from the 80s attack.

The goal here is to turn the film into an action-comedy tentpole for Sony, and with the way it’s shaping up, it sounds like it could very well be just that. The premise is certainly intriguing and has a lot of potential to be a really fun ride, I’m just a bit weary of the fact that Sandler, James and Dowling are on board. Their involvement leads me to believe that Pixels will fall under the “stupid humor” category, a la Grown Ups or Paul Blart: Mall Cop.

I certainly hope that isn’t the case though, as I can’t stand those types of films and I really do think that the concept here has a ton of potential. I mean, it’s Ghostbusters except with video game characters, how awesome does that sound? Hopefully Columbus will be able to steer this ship in the right direction because if the film manages to stay away from the type of humor that populates most of Sandler’s efforts, I think the studio could have a big hit on their hands.

Check out Jean’s short below and let us know if you’re happy to hear that Peter Dinklage has joined the cast of Pixels.
