Petition To Replace Brie Larson As Captain Marvel About To Hit Its Goal

The ridiculous petition to replace Brie Larson as the MCU's Captain Marvel has nearly reached its goal, though it's far from likely the change'll be made.

I recall a scene from Monty Python and the Holy Grail in which Michael Palin, looking out among a foyer of spilt blood and carnage, declares “let’s not bicker and argue over who killed who!” Well, no. That sort of thing’s exactly the kind of event worth bickering and arguing over. But do you want to know what isn’t? The re-casting of a major blockbuster role.

And yet, people think that it’s an uphill battle worth fighting for in the case of Brie Larson as Captain Marvel. For months, Marvel fans have been tearing apart at the seams over Larson’s portrayal of the character. Some have even gone as far as to critique the Oscar-winning actresses’ personality, claiming that none of the other MCU actors get along with her on set.

The more logical argument, however, rests in the white-washing of the role, since Monica Rambeau was the first female Captain Marvel to appear in the comics. And it’s also the basis of the viral petition asking Marvel Studios to replace Larson.

According to The Petition Site, at the time of writing, it’s gained over 24,000 supporters and is therefore less than one thousand away from its goal.

Well, let’s be more specific. Its goal is to reach 25,000 signatures, which it’ll likely do. Now, what the organizer of the rally, Spike Valentine, is planning on achieving with it is an entirely different question.

There’s absolutely no way Disney’s willing to backtrack on their contract with Larson. And they don’t really have any business reasons to do so. Captain Marvel was the year’s first major blockbuster, earning over $1 billion at the global market and becoming the 22nd highest-grossing movie of all time.

Adding more fuel to the fire though, we want to know your thoughts on this controversial debate. Do you think there’s any chance Marvel Studios knocks Larson off her mantle? And is that something you even want? Go ahead, set the comments section ablaze below.
