Here we have the first picture released from the upcoming adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith‘s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. There’s not a whole lot going on in the pic, but there’s more than likely to be more interesting photos coming up as The New York Times has been granted an early set visit.
The film stars Benjamin Walker, Anthony Mackie, Dominic Cooper, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Robin McLeavy, Jimmi Simpson, Alan Tudyk, and Rufus Sewell.
Cooper will be playing a vampire known as Henry Sturges who gives the president’s (Walker) diaries to the author. As the film’s story goes, Sturges saved Lincoln’s life when he battled with a vampire as a teenager, resulting in the two becoming good friends. Sturges teaches Lincoln everything about vampires and even trains him so that he can hunt down and kill the evil ones.
The other cast members’ roles include Mackie as Will, the president’s best friend, Winstead as Mary Todd, McLeavy as Lincoln’s mother, Sewell as Adam, the head vampire, and Tudyk as Stephen A. Douglas, the leader of the Southern Vampires.
The film is being directed by Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted, Night Watch), who has described it as a cross between D.W. Griffith‘s Abraham Lincoln and F.W. Murnau‘s Nosferatu. He’s also commented that what Lincoln did “was like what Jesus did 2,000 years ago: he freed people.”
The film is currently being shot and is due to be released on June 22, 2012.
