We’re all really excited about the Blade Runner sequel today, but there’s also news surrounding a sequel that some people might not be as excited about. In case you haven’t heard, there’s another Pirates of the Caribbean film coming up – this one with the unbelievably clunky title Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales – and some rumors about the return of a certain franchise favorite have recently surfaced from the depths.

Potential spoilers lie ahead…..

We already know that Johnny Depp is returning, again, as Captain Jack Sparrow, and that Orlando Bloom is taking time off from not doing anything to once again ride the waves as Will Turner. Now, there are reports that Keira Knightly is pulling on her galleon boots to reprise her role as Elizabeth. We’re hearing that she’ll appear in the post-credits scene, which would indicate that she’s being set up to return for the sixth (!) film in the franchise.

It’s hardly a surprising rumor, especially with the return of Bloom in his original role. Both actors stepped away from the Pirates franchise for the last film On Stranger Tides, I presume because they realized just how bad the series had gotten. Their final outing had the pair reuniting after ten years, during which Will had sailed the seven seas as the captain of the Dutchman, escorting sailors to the afterlife (and apparently leaving his wife to raise a child on her own). So, what’s Elizabeth up to now and what will her role be in the fifth and possibly sixth films? We’ll have to watch to find out.

Let’s remember that this is just a rumor as of now and it’s best to not get too excited. Besides, the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise hasn’t done so well since the first film, and there’s a reason Knightley distanced herself from it in the first place, right?

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales will sail into cinemas on May 26th, 2017.
