New Captain Marvel Easter Egg Spotted In Avengers: Infinity War

The post-credits sequence of Avengers: Infinity War could be seen as a moment of transition for the franchise as a whole, as Nick Fury, in his final moments before turning into dust, summons the arrival of a character who’s likely to play a leading role in the MCU for years to come. We are of course referring to Carol Danvers, star of next year’s Captain Marvel, as well as a presumed major player in Avengers 4. And while Nick’s paging of Marvel Studios’ new recruit is undoubtedly the film’s most obvious nod to Brie Larson’s character, it may not be the only reference that features in Infinity War.

For another potential hint at what to expect from the upcoming Captain Marvel, we must journey back to the conflict fought in New York over Doctor Strange’s Time Stone. Battling on behalf of Thanos are the sinister Ebony Maw and his intimidatingly large associate Cull Obsidian. While Cull ends up losing an arm in the struggle, it’s the fighter’s leg – specifically the familiar-looking fabric that’s spread across it – that’s the focus of one fan’s attention.

A Twitter user has posted a pair of stills looking at the red-and-blue pattern that Cull’s sporting, followed by a third image of Carol Danvers wearing a costume that exhibits an undeniably similar design.

While the notable resemblance between the two materials could merely be coincidental, this possible Easter egg is already sparking the imaginations of some fans as they ponder how the Child of Thanos might come by this fabric in Carol’s ‘90s-set debut. Take one Twitter user for example, who responded to these photos with the suggestion that maybe Cull attained the piece of drapery after killing Mar-Vell, the original Captain Marvel. That would certainly explain why Jude Law’s character has yet to make an appearance in the MCU so far, while also serving as another welcome link in continuity between Avengers: Infinity War and Marvel’s next feature film.

Fans are clearly putting in the effort to unearth any clues they can about Carol Danvers’ introductory big screen outing, but there are some things that we’ll only know for sure once Captain Marvel finally hits theaters on March 8th, 2019.
