Power Rangers Director Expects Lord Zedd To Appear In Sequel

Due to a disappointing box office performance, the future of the rebooted Power Rangers movie franchise is in doubt. That's a big shame as, while the first film wasn't beloved by all, the majority of fans would still like to see a sequel. Mainly because there's a lot more a second outing could do to expand the mythology and bring in some exciting elements from the original TV show. For one, the post-credits scene of the first film hinted at a future appearance by Tommy Oliver/the Green Ranger.

Another character who’s expected to appear if a sequel ever materializes is Lord Zedd, probably the best villain from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Zedd, with his exposed brain and metal skull face, was the major antagonist of season 2 of the show, so it only makes sense for him to appear in the next Power Rangers film.

It turns out that director Dean Israelite is just as onboard with the idea of bringing Zedd into the fold as the fans are, as he recently had the following to say about it.

“Well Lord Zedd is the obvious choice [for the sequel’s villain], I think, in a good way. Ya know, there was a time when we were talking about Lord Zedd being in this movie. And it just felt like we didn’t have the real estate for it and I didn’t want to dilute our villains. So we kind of went all in on Rita. And so I think definitely it would all expanding into the next volume I definitely think have to feature Lord Zedd. I mean that’s not set in stone but I think that’s the obvious, sort of, next step to it.”

It’s interesting to note that Zedd almost turned up in Power Rangers, though Israelite was probably best to not stuff the movie with villains when it was focused on introducing the Rangers themselves. That being said, if a sequel does happen, it will definitely be a shame if we don’t get to see a new version of the villain, so let’s hope they include him.

Let’s not get too ahead of ourselves, though. First, Lionsgate has the give the green light, and only when that happens can we start speculating about what Power Rangers 2 may bring us.
