The second Project Almanac helmer Dean Israelite took the reins on Power Rangers, Lionsgate’s anticipated live-action tentpole began to veer in a different direction than fans of the ’90s phenomenon have come to expect. As that vision started to take shape, and the first wave of stills hit the interwebs, it became crystal clear that Israelite and Co. were striving for a new and decidedly more realistic portrayal of those fresh-faced heroes.

Gone are the camp spandex suits and cries of Mighty Morphin’ Rangers; instead, the Power Rangers of 2017 are very much a new breed of hero and, in making these changes, Lionsgate will be hoping to appease a new generation of potential fans. While we’re still waiting patiently for that elusive first trailer, a pair of promo shots have emerged from the Brazilian Licensing Expo (via CBM) that offer up what is arguably the best look at our heroes in costume yet.

Suited, booted, and ready to kick some aliens right square in the derriere – Elizabeth Banks’ Rita Repulsa in particular – we’ll be keeping track of the studio’s high-profile reimagining as it prepares to unleash that first sizzle reel showcasing our new Rangers in motion.

Lionsgate will call upon the Power Rangers – namely Dacre Montgomery, Becky G, Ludi Lin, Naomi Scott and RJ Cyler – on March 24, 2017.

Power-Rangers

Saban’s Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.
