Ready the Chimichangas! Fox producer Simon Kinberg has revealed that Deadpool 2 is set to leap in front of the cameras early next year, when Ryan Reynolds will reprise his role as the irreverent Merc With a Mouth.

Word comes by way of the 42nd Annual Saturn Awards, where Kinberg was in attendance to collect the George Pal Memorial Award. It was here that Collider quizzed the creator on the immediate future of Tim Miller’s sequel, and Kinberg confirmed that Fox “hopes to shoot the movie sometime at the beginning of next year.” Will the production return to Ryan Reynolds’ hometown of Vancouver? For now, that remains up in the air.

Indeed, much of the excitement for Deadpool 2 centers on the currently vacant role of Cable, with everyone from Dolph Lundgren to Ron Perlman to Stephen Lang pitching their proverbial hat into the ring. Plus, there’s also the small matter of Taskmaster who, according to Ed Skrein, could be giving Wade Wilson a run for his money.

Whatever the case, the 42nd Annual Saturn Awards capped off a memorable year for Simon Kinberg, who worked across X-Men movies, The Martian, Deadpool and Star Wars: Rebels. That’s quite the lineup, and with Deadpool 2, The Wolverine 3 and New Mutants on the horizon, Fox’s superhero expert will surely be keeping busy over the next two-to-three years.
