The First Purge Teaser Trailer Wants To Make America Great Again

Election Year has come and gone and Anarchy has reigned, but there's still a future for The Purge franchise. As was revealed earlier today, a fourth film is coming our way under the title of The First Purge and it'll open on July 4th. That's not too far off and as expected, Universal has now kicked off the marketing campaign, which is proving to be quite interesting.

As was revealed earlier today, a fourth film is heading our way under the title of The First Purge and it’ll open on July 4th. That’s not too far off now and as expected, Universal has kicked off the marketing campaign, which is proving to be quite interesting.

Following that first poster (seen below), which was as minimalistic as they come, we’ve now got a teaser trailer for the sequel. Don’t expect any footage here, though, as it really is just a teaser, asking us what makes America great? A voiceover then plays on top of patriotic imagery, as it tells us the following:

“The answer’s simple really. Americans make America great. You are the lifeblood of the nation and your rights as Americans must be safeguarded. There is only one solution to keep our country great — a new tradition. Participate today and nothing will make you prouder than when your boy looks up at you and says, ‘Dad, I wanna purge too!’”

Again, it’s not much and doesn’t show us anything at all from the film, but for more, here’s the official synopsis:

Behind every tradition lies a revolution.  Next Independence Day, witness the rise of our country’s 12 hours of annual lawlessness.  Welcome to the movement that began as a simple experiment: The First Purge.

To push the crime rate below one percent for the rest of the year, the New Founding Fathers of America (NFFA) test a sociological theory that vents aggression for one night in one isolated community.  But when the violence of oppressors meets the rage of the marginalized, the contagion will explode from the trial-city borders and spread across the nation.

The First Purge is directed by Gerard McMurray (Burning Sands), working from a screenplay once again written by James DeMonaco. Starring Y’Lan Noel, Lex Scott Davis, Joivan Wade, Luna Lauren Velez and Marisa Tomei, it’s slated to arrive in theaters on July 4.
