Doctor Strange star Rachel McAdams has entered negotiations to participate in Game Night, a New Line comedy to be helmed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley.

Nothing is concrete just yet, but we understand that McAdams is poised to join Jason Bateman for a light-hearted romp involving a group of like-minded couples who regularly earmark one night on the calendar for Game Night. Drinks, laughs, and general revelry ensue, but their cherished tradition takes a turn for the worse when something goes murderously wrong. No further details were given regarding the story or McAdams and Bateman’s respective roles in it, but we assume the pair are set to play one couple caught up in the domestic chaos.

Dana Fox and Mark Perez hatched the original screenplay, before Goldstein and Daley, who enjoyed success through 2015’s Vacation reboot, produced a final draft for Game Night. It’s been teetering on the edge of development at New Line for close to three years, though with Jason Bateman and now Rachel McAdams on board – pending final negotiations for the actress – the domestic comedy can finally begin to coalesce.

Bateman, who was recently part of the starry ensemble to appear in Office Christmas Party, will produce Game Night through his Aggregrate Films banner, and we fully expect the actor – ever a bankable player in the comedy genre – to bring his signature blend of snarky, sarcastic humor to the project. As for Rachel McAdams, she’s secured a part in the upcoming Disobedience, while there has been chatter that the actress could reprise as Irene Adler for Sherlock Holmes 3.
