Unfortunately, Cameron Crowe hasn’t been terribly busy lately. The director took a six year break between Elizabethtown and We Bought A Zoo (though he did put out two documentaries during that time) and now, we’re all patiently awaiting his next film, Deep Tiki, which won’t be here until late 2014. So far, Bradley Cooper and Emma Stone have been cast as leads and today, Rachel McAdams has joined.
Though we don’t know a whole lot about this film just yet, from what we’ve heard it will be similar to Crowe’s two biggest hits, Jerry Maguire and Almost Famous, in that it will be funny and romantic. McAdams’ role is said to be that of Cooper’s ex-lover, but no other details were given.
Now, here’s where it gets tricky. The film isn’t officially titled just yet but apparently, it’s a “heavily reworked” version of a project formerly titled Deep Tiki that Crowe had been working on for a while. No word yet on whether or not that’s going to be the official title but that’s what we’re calling it for now.
From what we know of the premise of the film, it centers on “a defense contractor (Cooper) who is overseeing a weapons satellite launch from Hawaii teams up with (and falls for) an Air Force pilot (Stone) to scuttle the launch. Mystical island forces and a talking a computer also play a part.”
The original Deep Tiki project that Crowe was working on had a very similar story, which means that these two films are likely the same and that this is indeed a re-working of the long-gestating project. Again, nothing is confirmed but this untitled film is most likely going to turn out to be Deep Tiki.
Anyways, McAdams is a wonderful actress and her addition to the film has me very excited. Crowe is putting together an excellent cast for this one and Deep Tiki or not, I’m already looking forward to it.
