Reactions To First 40 Minute Screening Of Logan Call Wolverine’s Final Outing A Gritty Western

Earlier this evening, 20th Century Fox staged a special event in New York City that brought forth new looks at Alien: Covenant and War of the Planet of the Apes and Logan. Of that trio, perhaps the one upcoming release that enjoyed the biggest splash was James Mangold’s R-rated actioner, one which signals Hugh Jackman’s swan song as Wolverine.

That’s because Fox treated those in attendance to the first 40 minutes of Wolverine’s final adventure, and the online reaction has been overwhelmingly positive, with critics praising the gritty, Western tone and Dafne Keen’s performance as the young X-23/Laura. The latter is all but set to steal the show, it seems, but overall these knee-jerk impressions leave us feeling cautiously optimistic ahead of Logan‘s arrival in March.

In related news, it seems the second full trailer for Logan is right around the corner. It’s now been classified, according to the BBFC, indicating that Fox will choose to drop new footage over the coming weeks as the marketing machine begins to kick into gear.

Logan claws its way into theaters on March 3, 2017 when Patrick Stewart, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant, Eriq La Salle, Elise Neal and Elizabeth Rodriguez will round out the starry ensemble.
