First Reaction To Joker Says It’s A Series Of Punches To The Gut

Months ahead of its release, Joker has screened to test audiences, and the initial reactions have definitely piqued our interest.

Although the hype and excitement around both Avengers: Endgame and Shazam! have died down in the past month, there are still plenty of superhero movies on the horizon. Spider-Man: Far From Home is due out in a few short weeks, and soon enough, Warner Bros. Pictures’ standalone Joker will be hitting the big screen, too.

Still, while Todd Phillips’ latest film has largely been kept under wraps, plenty of plot leaks and unconfirmed spoilers have made their way to the internet. Last week, for instance, we reported on a few leaked plot details which seem to suggest that Joker/Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) will incite a revolution during the early ’80s, pitting the rich and the poor of Gotham City against each other.

If you’re worried about spoiling yourself, you should definitely be careful where you go online, as it seems Warner Bros. has already screened the movie and a few lucky test audience members have begun to share unconfirmed plot details and reactions to the film all over the web. In fact, one lucky son-of-a-gun took to social media to voice their thoughts recently, which has only served to pique our interest.

As reported by the Daily Express, Twitter user ViewerAnon has apparently seen an early cut of the film. Of course, we can’t confirm the veracity of their claims, but interestingly, it seems they were also part of test screenings for Terminator: Dark Fate and Toy Story 4. When it comes to Joker, however, ViewerAnon said it’s “a movie that is casual in its nastiness.”

Wanted to chew on this for a couple hours before saying anything: JOKER screened tonight. It’s a movie that is casual in its nastiness, a series of continual punches to the gut. If you’re into that sort of thing, you’ll love it. If not… (I am)

Needless to say, it looks like Joker will be more brutal and not for the faint of heart, which is an interesting change of pace for the franchise. We’ve already heard reports of Joaquin Phoenix’s Oscar-worthy performance, so if all these rumors prove true, we’re definitely in for a treat when the pic hits theaters on October 4th.
