Deadline is reporting that Anne Fletcher, director of The Proposal and The Guilt Trip, will helm a new film titled Don’t Mess With Texas, which Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara have now signed on to headline. The script comes from David Feeney and John Quaintance and is being described in the same vein as Midnight Run. Witherspoon will play a police officer while Vergara will be a prisoner, with the two teaming up to go on the run together.
Originally set up at Universal, the film is now at MGM and apparently it’s all coming together very quickly. It’s a good thing too, because with female led comedies like The Heat and Bridesmaids doing excellent at the box office, it seems like Don’t Mess With Texas has the chance to do some respectable business as well. I can definitely see moviegoers just eating this one up, especially with these two always enjoyable and charming actresses in the lead roles.
Now that things are rolling, I would expect to hear more casting news shortly. Once more updates arise, we’ll be sure to let you know.
