It’s been a whirlwind 24 hours for the Star Wars faithful, and things are only getting started.
Nipping at the heels of today’s grand unveiling of the Star Wars: The Last Jedi teaser trailer (spoilers: it’s magnificent, and you’ll be able to find it right here), Disney has rolled out a series of high-res screenshots that allow fans – us included! – to relive every magical moment that’s been crammed into the promo below.
From an unconscious Finn (John Boyega) to BB-8 making a beeline to safety, it’s an effective teaser in that it pays a visit to all of The Last Jedi‘s principal characters, with a particular focus on the blossoming (and perhaps tenacious?) student-teacher relationship developing between Rey and Luke Skywalker, the all-powerful Jedi Master played by the great Mark Hamill. Dark and difficult times lie ahead for our Force-sensitive heroes, what with Hamill’s bearded lead hinting at the impending end of the Jedi. All of those scenes between Rey and Luke are filmed on the Irish isle of Skellig Michael. Known as Anch-To in the Star Wars universe, it’s said to be the first Jedi Temple, which is perhaps the best place in all the universe for Rey to hone her newfound abilities.
Elsewhere, the gallery above includes a series of shots dedicated to the Resistance’s new fleet of ships, which can be seen barreling toward an imposing squadron of AT-ATs – along with an accompanying AT-ST, by the looks of things – on some form of desert planet. Whether Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron is leading the charge here is up for question, but the fact that the teaser also shows his original X-Wing being blown to kingdom come tells us that the best pilot in the galaxy will be about to climb into a new vessel come December.
Written and directed by Rian Johnson, Star Wars: The Last Jedi shoots for theaters on December 15th – without Billy Dee Williams’ ice-cool Lando Calrissian, sadly. If you’ve yet to catch the actual trailer itself, or if you simply want to watch it for the fifteenth time, we’ve got you covered; down below, you’ll find the official first look at Johnson’s sci-fi sequel and yes, it’s a doozy.
